Reflection on the article "What is successful Technology Integration?"

The article “What is successful Technology Integration?” speaks on what technology integration is and how it can be used daily. It defines and breaks it down for teachers who are and are not familiar with technology themselves. It also provides many examples of how one can integrate technology into their classroom and provides many helpful ideas. For example, it speaks on Game-Based Learning and Assessment which I believe can be helpful keeping kids focused and engaged, it also speaks on Learning with Mobile and Handheld Devices which many teachers have categorized as distractions instead of helpful to learning. I agree with this article because as our society shifts into a technology based ear we as educators should follow it. Us following this technological era is not only beneficial to our students but to us too. Our students will one day live, work and raise their own kids surrounded by current if not more advanced technology so allowing them to experience it from a young age I feel could only help them out more.
Another practice that many teachers and future teachers can learn from and teach to their students is Assistive Technology tutorials. Tutorials are something that are very popular in our society right now, if you log into just about any social media page and scroll through you can find one. Currently tutorials are being used for things such as learning how to cook something new, or how to apply one’s makeup so why not use them to teach in the classroom. Assistive technology tutorials can be especially helpful for those who are visually impaired or as reading and writing tools or even to create talking books.

A practice that is part of educational technology is Keyboarding. I agree that Keyboarding is something that is not stressed enough in schools and should be. Most educators think that if their students or even themselves learn how to navigate through the major programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Word they will be fine. Well that is where they are wrong while learning these skills are important, skills such as keyboarding are just as important. If students do not learn how to work a keyboard or type a certain speed while in grade school, they will be in trouble when they move onto their high education or even at their future jobs. Most jobs nowadays like teaching involve one using a computer and most of these jobs have a words per minute requirement, or a need of working a keyboard at a swift pace so the lack of ability will later on affect their future but most assessments now a days are also on computers and typing is a part of that.
